apple October Monthly Sketch Project Challenge

apples, originally uploaded by kquilts.

I am participating in the new Monthly sketch project and this was my attempt at the apples photo Leslie Hawes provided for the challenge. The red apple was not difficult, but I really had a difficult time with the green one getting it the color that I was satisfied with. I have been taking classes in acrylic painting so decided that I would use acrylics for this project.

Splendid job with the colors!

Thank you Leslie. The greens are always hard for me. I'm not very good at mixing them.

Thank you Lori. I tried. I took my time with it. I also had read in a book on acrylic painting by Lee Hammond that most people quit on a painting too soon. She said the painting goes through and "ugly stage" before you get to a final good painting, so I just persevered till I was happy with it.

I really like this. I like how you captured the crispness of the apples and the sparkle.

I agree with you about painting with acrylics. They are not so easy but you have managed to capture those apples in all their 'appleness'.

Love the highlights! I always loved red apples better than green ones anyway. But really, these both look yummy!

Thanks Florence, Possum Patty, and Florence. I am just learning acrylics but I am enjoying the whole process. I appreciate the comments, it makes me want to paint more so is incentive to practice more.
